Spanish Citizenship by Residence
Secure Spanish citizenship with a fully managed, end-to-end process designed to reduce delays and errors.
Who it’s for
Foreign nationals who legally reside in Spain and meet the continuous residence period under the Spanish Civil Code (Art. 22). As a guide:
- 10 years in general.
- 5 years for refugees.
- 2 years for nationals of Latin American countries, Andorra, the Philippines, Equatorial Guinea, Portugal, and for people of Sephardic origin.
- 1 year in specific cases (e.g., born in Spain; married to a Spanish national for one year and not separated; widower/widow of a Spanish national; child or grandchild of a Spanish national by origin).
Note: You must also show good civic conduct and, in most cases, pass CCSE and DELE A2 (with recognised exemptions, e.g., nationals of countries where Spanish is an official language are typically exempt from DELE).
What we do
- Feasibility check (residence time, absences, records, exams/exemptions).
- Document plan: precise checklist and formats (legalisations/apostilles and sworn translations, where required).
- Exam management (CCSE/DELE): registration, reminders and documentation.
- End-to-end filing online with the Ministry of Justice; tracking and responses to requests.
- Closing the process: oath appointment at the Civil Registry and coordination for DNI and passport issuance.
- Single point of contact and milestone calendar so you always know what’s next.
Key docs
- Valid passport (full, all pages).
- Criminal record certificate(s) from your country of origin and, where applicable, from countries where you resided.
- Literal birth certificate.
- Payment of the administrative fee for nationality.
- Where applicable: residence and census registration certificates, marriage/birth certificates for 1-year cases, CCSE/DELE certificates, plus legalisations/apostilles and sworn translations.

FAQs:
Do I always need CCSE and DELE A2?
CCSE is generally required; DELE A2 applies unless you qualify for an exemption (e.g., nationals of countries where Spanish is an official language). We confirm your status and handle registration.
Can I keep my current nationality?
It depends on your country and treaties with Spain. We assess whether you may retain your original citizenship.
What if I have a police record?
It may affect the good conduct requirement. We assess your case and prepare submissions where appropriate.
Do time abroad or long trips affect eligibility?
Yes, absences may affect continuity. We review your entry/exit history and propose a compliant strategy.
How long does it take?
Timeframes vary according to administrative workload. After reviewing your file, we provide a realistic timeline and actively monitor progress.
